The VIII Charity Gala Dinner of the Fundación Red de Ayuda a Niños Abusados (RANA) – (Assistance Network for Abused Children) – was held this Friday to raise funds for the education, awareness and prevention of sexual child abuse. The Son Mir Estate was once again the chosen venue for the event, which was decorated and prepared for the arrival of more than 270 guests, all dressed in 1920’s-style garments, drawing inspiration from the film “The Great Gatsby”.
The PR Officer and Educator of the RANA Foundation, Patricia Moliner, told us that “it is the eighth Charity Gala we have held and we are also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Foundation. We have gathered together a group of friends to enjoy the evening, create awareness, auction items, have fun and raise funds for the association”.
This year has seen the Foundation beat its own record of attendees who were able to find some very special gifts at the auction. “We usually manage to raise a quarter of our annual budget and this year, we have beaten our own record, with more than 270 people attending the Gala. We had signed football shirts from Suarez, Messi, Neymar and Cristiano, together with pieces of art, trips to Cancun, the Mauritius Islands, jewellery and so forth. Every year, more and more companies want to be involved and that fills us with pride”, said Moliner.
The Prosecutor, José Diaz Cappa was amongst the guests and he highlighted the enthusiasm of the association’s founder, Elizabeth Homberg, when recruiting collaborators for the cause. “I’ve known Liz for ten years now and I remember that she held a meeting for all those interested in collaborating with RANA, to help get the project started and alleviate this problem. She gathered us together, without us knowing each other, and she convinced us. I always try to participate in this Gala which aims to get Liz’s project known and cannot be ignored by those of us who are occupationally involved”.
Marc Fosh Catering was delighted to collaborate with this cause for yet another year, by offering not only a delicious menu for the occasion but also unbeatable service, excellent organization, with every last detail being cared for. The Son Mir Estate was the perfect location to make this event a success.
In 2015 alone, RANA offered either telephone assistance or personal attention to 124 people who contacted the association regarding particular cases of sexual abuse of children. Since its creation in 2005, the association has been able to educate over 17,000 children regarding prevention and awareness; 17,000 children who have learned how to say no when faced with possible abuse. Support of this initiative is absolutely necessary and we feel proud to be able to collaborate.
